Friday, May 31

Today we drive to Temuco for a control with Dr. Rivas, the neurologist.  Control seems to be the name of a follow up appointment.  I am hoping we will get permission to eliminate one medication and decrease another.  It is hard to know if side effects are worth the benefits.

It has been raining off and on all morning after raining steadily all night.  The elders called to check on us last night, thinking that our power was out.  They live only three or four blocks away, and had no power.  Fortunately we were okay.  I guess they had power a couple of days ago when we didn't. Missionaries here are really challenged by being out in the wet and cold and dark.

Being in has its own challenges.  I am trying to be diligent in exercise, scripture reading, piano keyboard practice and family communication.  I decided that means I need to be more diligent in blogging.  It probably means I need to do a better job of communicating with my husband.  We need to figure out good things we can do together.  I think my next missionary goal will be to complete the city map for Curacautin that we were working on when Ken got sick.

Wednesday, May 29

We really rely on electricity and missed it when we lost it at 5:30 last night.  Fortunately we had eaten an early dinner.  But it was dark outside.  No heaters, no Internet, and limited battery light and life.  So we climbed into bed and pulled up the covers.  When we got up to take bedtime pills, we were happy to see a crew out in the rain working on the lines.  It must have been terrible for them, even with a generator.  We got power back by 10:45, but I stayed mostly in bed until about 5:45 this morning.  It was still dark, but enough bed is enough.  With heat and power back there is more that can be done.

I organized three more rooms today and made a shopping list.  The rain has stopped and we sometimes see the sun.  Ken will join me for a walk.

Volcan Copahue is being active.  It is about 65 miles away as the crow flies, about twice that by roads.  They are doing evacuation of the immediate area, but it shouldn't affect us.

Tuesday, May 28

We have district meeting this morning, but I can't make brownies, because I didn't get my pans back yet from the activity.  Actually it was nice to have an excuse.  I like having meetings because they add variety and people to my day. I am always impressed with the young missionaries.  I am going to try to get one of them to help me fix my phone.  It keeps forwarding all my calls to somewhere.
