Jose Miguel was good at finding veins. The other nurse gave up after five tries, so she had him come in to finish the task. He was the first to greet us when we changed rooms to the third floor. For a while Ken thought he was our son, Steven.
It was kind of inconvenient to end up with an IV in the right hand.
Luxiola, above, is a whirlwind tec paramedica. She was reliable help and very observant.
Ana is the nurse on the left and Patricia is the tea paramedics. The nurses always wear navy and the paramedics, the light blue. Ana helped get the records on CDs for us. Sweet, sweet women.
This is Iris, the tec paramedics who helped save Elder Babcock's glasses when he went to sleep one night reading the Book of Mormon. At my invitation she took the book with her for night reading, but a different paramedics brought it back in the morning. Later I gave Iris a personal copy to keep forever. She was very pleased. We talked a lot about the church. She had a friend who was an elder and she had attended church before.
Fabiola was a kinesiolaga who worked a lot with Ken in Intensive Care when he was first hospitalized, when he needed someone to move his muscles for him. He didn't remember her, but she must have been pleased to do the final mobility evaluation.
It was a very long day.
The sunset was redder than it looks in the photo. A good day. The next to last one we spent in the Clinic.
The hospital calendar lasted until the last day in the clinic. When I put up this calendar I had no idea that we would be in the hospital until the very last day. Chilean calendars always start on Monday and end on Sunday. Our little airplane is on the tape, off the chart.
The 19th has O'Ryan's smiley face, because it was the first really good mobility day. There were some not so good after that, but I think Elder Babcock did earn a couple more smiles.
We had been making plans for our arrival in Salt Lake City and setting up transport from the airport to the hospital. For a while we thought we would be met by an ambulance, but that didn't seem necessary. There was a change of plans regarding the hospital. Ken will be going to the University of Utah Hospital instead of to Intermountain Medical Center because the University of Utah Health Network has all of our records. We knew that several of our children and their families would meet us at the airport and that Becca who works on campus would probably take us to the hospital. Hopefully all of the luggage would fit.
We were told that the Stake President would meet with us and that we would be released as missionaries some time Tuesday afternoon or evening.
