Here at the clinic, one of the cleaning
ladies tried to explain something about people from the hospital in Victoria
praying for Elder Babcock. Sweet thoughts.
My daughter found a translation
application for iPad which also magnifies the words, to use with the nurses and
with Elder Babcock. Very easy and useful. For the first time I had a chance to
explain more to Elder Babcock and show him pictures of the elders who helped
bring him to Temuco. He still could not hear well enough to hold a conversation.
Elder Babcock seemed surprised
and grateful for the attention, love, blessings, prayers and miracles of life.
He spoke Spanish 90%, and today his words were clearer. He quickly ate his
apple sauce and chicken soup and watered-down juice. He asked the date and said
with a smile, “I don’t remember being in a coma.”
The physical therapist came. She
worked on lifting his arms, also lateral movement, lifting legs, sitting. All
movements needed assistance, but Elder Babcock was progressing. He lifted his
arms and his legs by himself and crossed his legs. Sensation was the same on
the left and right side, but the right was weaker.
Elder Babcock wanted to read
emails. We talked about our mission in the Caribbean. Looking at blogs and
enjoying memories. He wanted to read everything, and he was beginning to
remember. It is a blessing that we have many photos and blogs from our past
together.
