This morning Elder Babcock had
intravenous fluids to help the kidneys because he was receiving antibiotics
again. He was also supposed to drink a lot of water.
Elder Babcock could tell stories from
when he was young. He spoke of the blue hen. His parents were in charge of
social activities for adults in the Methodist church. Once had a spring
festival with a banquet and entertainment with a theme of spring chicken. They
bought a chicken and thought it would be fun to dye it blue with food coloring.
During dinner they threw the chicken off the balcony. After the event they took
the chicken home and discovered she was laying eggs in the yard. Sometimes the
eggs were fresh enough to eat, but often they were too old. Elder Babcock said
he was about eight years old and the songs were from the Second World War.
Twice around the atrium, three
steps on the stairs up and down. He was also able to do a test of balance with
one foot directly in front of the other.
Thanks for blogs and emails. They
are a good antidote to boredom and discouragement. He enjoyed reading today. I
was glad we had some new ones. I wish he had the strength to share with family
appreciation he shares with me. He may have read more than I thought. He was
getting a little more independence with the computer. And we just heard
excerpts from the General Conference, another blessing.
He was less willing to shave
today. I needed to ask him to count his blessings. The room was comfortably
warm. He liked that. He liked being alive. He was slowly finding patterns and
routines that helped him through the day. He liked having a clock. He liked
that I came every day. He was never hungry. They frequently brought snacks and
food for him to eat.
