Thursday, April 25

Elder Babcock walked around the court without stopping and without holding on to me or the physical therapist, then again holding my arm. And he took a shower without help from the nurses. More independence was very nice.

He was not used to doing so little, but doing what little he did, he got very tired. He kept me busy, but was concerned that I was bored. In fact, I had more interaction with people at the clinic that I did as a missionary in Victoria.

President and Sister Martinez were here for two hours. They stayed to watch him exercise and while he ate lunch. Then the President gave Elder Babcock another blessing. He had faith in a full recovery and helped me have the same faith and trust. It was not for us or because of any special merit, but because the Lord was using us to bless the missionaries and doctors and nurses and aides and members. It was a humbling experience.

I believe that President Martinez recognized the miraculous nature of Elder Babcock’s recovery more than any of us. He had the vision and faith in the miracle when everyone doubted. I think he knew it would be a blessing to the mission and the miracle was because of his prayer to the Lord.

Elder Babcock was so alert and awake with the President that he was really tired in the afternoon. He was also very worried because he overheard a conversation that I had with the mission secretary about health insurance.

The last therapy was a waste and they were cut back to two a day, but I could do homework with him if he cooperated.
