I am thinking about preparing.  It is our last day in the hostel.  We have an appointment tonight at 5:00 with a diabetes doctor. I have a few questions.  But I don't know what they are.  I should go prepared.

I am not sure I am prepared to deal with everything in Victoria and I am sure Ken isn't. Actually I am sure I am not either.

What is preparation?  It is impossible to know beforehand how to do things you haven't done.  So preparing the mind and spirit to deal with the surprises and challenges might be what is needed.  In a sense everything we do is preparation for the next thing we do.  Having done something before in one situation is a preparation for being able to do it in a different situation.

My list includes laundry, shopping, cooking, cleaning, organizing, helping Ken, dealing with phone calls and visitors, driving us to meetings, deciding how long to stay, learning how to do things Ken used to do that he can't yet do (like open the garage door).

Helping Ken means:
Helping him with regular physical therapy.
Helping him know where things are and deciding together where things should be.
Helping him know which household tasks to do and helping him learn to do them.
Helping him remember what he was doing before March 26.
Helping him decide priority of tasks.

What is helping?
Maybe leaving him alone to do whatever he can and whatever he wants to do.
Being there when he wants to talk to me, to ask me questions.
Being there when he wants me to do something and doing it in a way that is helpful for both of us.
