Sunday, May 19 - small steps and stumbles
Elder Babcock didn't remember where the men's bathroom was at the chapel, but he was very happy that he remembered almost half the people. He got lots of hugs and kisses. A really warm welcome. We only stayed to the sacrament meeting. There were lots of changes, a new counselor, a new Relief Society President, a new Young Women's President and a new Primary President to go with the new Branch President.
They were using a CD player for prelude music, but I decided to offer to play the piano. They were happy to have me. The keyboard pedal doesn't work, but the music rack was still there. I will need to find out ahead of time what the hymns are so I can practice. They also have a new music director who went down to sit with her family during the meeting. So with encouragement from Ken, I went down and sat with my family too.
Lots of challenges even though I try to anticipate problems and give warnings. My definition of turning on the shower just a little to have it be hot was different than his definition of a little. I don't do shower dribbles. I should have just suggested he make sure it was what he wanted before he climbed in.
The fuse blows every time we have on more than one appliance in the kitchen side of the house. That means if he has the heater on it the bedroom, I can't use one in the kitchen. I also can't use the microwave or the water pot. If I try to use a heater in the kitchen, I have to turn it off before I turn on anything else. Fortunately we have a gas stove that functions independent of the fuse box.
I definitely need to go grocery shopping tomorrow. I feel fortunate to have found good food for Ken to eat today. His glucose was way high last night after he had too much bread and milk products, even though the only sugar was a small test ice cream cone before we left Temuco. Today he got chicken for breakfast with his oatmeal, yogurt and fruit. Lunch was quinoa, green beans, beef, and unsweetened applesauce. Dinner will be split pea soup with part garbanzo beans. He also has a liquid drink like Ensure, but diabetes friendly.
I am so glad the internet works here, and I figured out how to get the garage door open. We are still trying to figure out the best way to lock it.
