Elder Babcock is stronger today. It is wonderful to be able to see
him do things he wasn't able to do a few days ago. He is down to 134
pounds though. It would be nice if our weights were reversed.
We are going to drive to Victoria this morning to pick up
a shower chair, which we actually might not need. We do need to do
laundry and pick up some food and clothes. It will be interesting to see
what it does to his memory. Right now he says he remembers nothing of our house
or what we did there.
__________
When we arrived, he said the houses looked familiar, and that he remembered seeing similar houses with me, but couldn't say when. Inside looked familiar to him too. The house was cold, so I set up the heater in the bedroom and had him climb in bed with the bed pad turned on while I washed clothes. He found the bathroom with no problem, but after a nap, lunch, and visitors he was too tired for a tour of the house. He did get into the boxes in the spare bedroom we called his "closet," but lost his balance and ended up pushing a box on a chair into the bedroom to see what was in it. I was able to do two loads of laundry and figure out which medications he had been taking. It was a worthwhile trip, but short and simple.
I am glad we are here in Temuco for a little while. I was able to make two follow up doctor appointments for next week and life is more simple here. I got a phone call from the elders that the new Branch President was really worried when he came to visit later in the afternoon and didn't find anyone home. I think we will have many visitors when we return to Victoria. We need to work on getting Elder Babcock stronger while we are here. He reminded me to take the camera with us, but we didn't take any pictures.
I was impressed that he immediately remembered the meaning of the fog triangles on the highway. It took him weeks to figure it out the first time. There were some familiar billboards on the highway as well. He remembered trying to take photos of the cowboy and the centurion ad campaign.
